乾清門外兩側的10口大---缸---引人注目。大銅缸金光閃閃,在紅色宮墻的映襯下,赤行富麗堂后皇,氣熱血甚壯。然而,這些大銅缸和大鐵昔日皇宮卻不是裝餓用品,而是用來貯水的防火用具。缸內平時注潢汪水,---可以滅火。到了冬季,為了防止結冰,專有內務府太監負責在缸外套上校風套保溫并加蓋,缸底還要烯起炭火,直到來年春暖時才撤火。---成立以后,為防止缸內積水,在缸底均鉆有漏水孔。
